Vehicle pushed off the road
A man sustained various injuries on Wednesday, 6 July, after the vehicle he was travelling in, was pushed off the road approximately 10km before Hendrina on the N11.
According to an eyewitness, Mr John Schickerling of the farm Tweefontein Section1, near Hendrina, a white Ford Fiesta was travelling about 200m in front of him in the direction of Ermelo. The driver of the Fiesta overtook a vehicle and was in the process of overtaking a coal truck, when the driver of the truck decided to overtake a small Transnet passenger bus in front of him and pushed the Fiesta off the road. As the Fiesta left the road near a bridge, it started to roll and ended up on the shoulder of the road, next to the bridge. “I stopped as soon as it was safe to do so and the Transnet bus, which was on the opposite side of the truck when the accident occurred, also stopped. The truck simply kept going, not even braking once. The Fiesta driver was not speeding and he did make use of his indicator. I don’t think that the truck driver did it purposefully, but that he simply did not look in his side mirror. I rushed to the vehicle lying in the ditch and helped the injured person inside. I phoned the Hendrina Police and a Netcare 911 ambulance was summoned,” Mr Schickerling explained.
A small police passenger bus from the Secunda Police that was travelling on the N11, saw the accident and assisted the driver of the Fiesta, Mr Patrick Mandla Soko (31), who was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries. LM
